Basic Account

I WANT a basic account. These are another recent innovation and are great for first-time bankers, people from overseas who are working in the UK or just people who don’t want the temptation of going into the red through an overdraft. Basic or no frills accounts won’t let you spend what you don’t have They do come with all the usual direct debit, standing order, cash card and even internet banking facilities of traditional bank accounts. Abbey, Alliance & Leicester, Barclays, Co-Operative, Halifax, HSBC, Nationwide, Lloyds TSB, Nat West, Royal Bank of Scotland and Yorkshire Bank all offer basic deals. Building societies like Chelsea, Leeds and Portman are worth considering for overdraft-free current accounts.
