Upgraded Account
I WANT an upgraded account. The banks have long since decided that one size no longer fits all. Barclays has eleven different current accounts, for example, while Lloyds TSB has nine. The real growth has been in upgraded ‘premium’ accounts which offer a range of perks from gold or platinum cards, free travel insurance and holiday currency to will-writing and car breakdown cover. These upgraded accounts also offer better terms on overdrafts and personal loans and may promise better interest rates while you are in credit. They do all come at a price, however. Monthly fees of between £5 and £25 a month are common and you need to be absolutely certain that the benefits are worth paying for.
